Reverse Super Size Me | The Farmer's Daughter Diet

I remember seeing Morgan Spurlock's Super Size Me- a documentary about his 30 day MacDonald's diet- shortly after it was released in 2004. Here was a guy willing to put his money where his mouth was to find out what fast food is doing to our bodies. He invested time and research to understand the fast food problem, rather than judging it strictly from the outside. I really admired that.  

Now Melissa Baer- The Farmer's Daughter- has decided to do the same. In reverse.  
No wheat, no sugar, no GMOs, no processed food, 
and definitely NO MacDonald's! 
for 30 days. 
(This is my new diet...*gulp*). 

Reverse Super Size Me | with Melissa (of Vibrant Farms). 

The philosophy of the diet is that our bodies are designed to burn fat, but (because of our high sugar/processed food diets) are burning sugar instead. To get my body back into fat burning mode, I've got to cut out all the grains, sugars (including fruit), and processed food.

Instead, I'll be eating a diet high in micro-nutrients from local, organic, ethically raised meats (good fats), veggies, nuts, raw dairy, and good healthy oils (coconut, cod liver, almond, flax seed).

Honestly, I don't know what to expect by the end of the 30 days, and for a girl who loves pasta, cheese, sandwiches, and pizza... this isn't going to be easy. Just thinking of stuff to make is a bit of a challenge. Everything I usually eat is out (and I thought I was a healthy eater)!

But here it goes....

Organic Blueberry SmoothieDay 1

Breakfast | Organic Blueberry Smoothie

1/2 cup of organic blueberries
2 Tbsp natural greek yogourt
1 Tbsp ground Flaxseed
1/2 cup of coconut milk

Tossed in a blender until smooth
Total Prep time: 5 minutes


Lunch | Hardy Homemade Soup

Hardy Homemade SoupRecipe:
1L broth (beef or chicken)
Desired amount of cubed beef (we had left over from previous night)
1/2 a medium sized onion
1 carrot (chopped)
red pepper
fresh basil and chives
1 tsp sea salt
dash of black pepper

Simmer ingredients at low for 30-45 min.
Total prep time: 1 hour


Lettuce Chicken Wraps | PizzaDinner | Lettuce Chicken Wraps (with Lemon Sauce)

2 Organic chicken thighs
1/4 of a Red Pepper
2 cloves of garlic (minced)
1/2 onion (diced)
handful of organic baby spinach (diced)
fresh chives (chopped)

Lightly brown chicken, then sautee ingredients together for 10-15 min.

1/2 cup Chicken broth
Tbsp organic butter
Tbsp yogurt
dash of basil and thyme
Heat broth on low, then add other ingredients. Whisk until smooth (over 5-10 minutes)

Total Prep Time: 25-30 Minutes

Snacks: Handful of almonds periodically through the day
Beverages: Water, and Organic Honey and Ginger Tea
